Immigration Reform

COMPREHENSIVE IMMIGRATION REFORM

Presently, the United States government is in the process of drastically overhauling the general landscape and the particular regulations of immigration law. You will see big changes in the nation’s immigration laws. If you came to the U.S. illegally or if you entered the country legally and overstayed the visa, the new proposed law may benefit you. It is important to work with an immigration reform lawyer who can help you understand these changes and know your rights and options. Fakhrudeen Hussain, founding attorney of Law Offices of Hussain & Gutierrez, has a wealth of experience — legal and personal — with the immigration process. From our Van Nuys office, we represent clients throughout the San Fernando Valley in a range of immigration matters. Give us a call today at 888-997-3701to discuss your specific situation in a free initial consultation.

PROPOSED REGISTERED PROVISIONAL IMMIGRANT (RPI)

In the coming months you will see big changes in the immigration laws. We will remain fully informed as the legal landscape changes, so that our clients will have the information they need for their immigration goals. If Congress approves this law, individuals who are in the United States illegally may be able to apply to become legal through the RPI process. Under RPI, you may immediately be able to get a work permit to work legally in the United States. Some of the proposed changes are:

  • The citizenship process for unauthorized immigrants currently residing in the United States: Currently, provisional waivers, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and other options are available for non-U.S. citizens who do not have legal status in the United States. We have a wealth of experience with these laws, and we will be on the cutting edge as the legal landscape changes.
  • The legal immigration system for workers and former workers: We help clients with F-1 student visas and a range of work-related visas. If you are petitioning for a visa, in the country on a visa, or seeking a visa extension when the laws change in this regard, we will be here to help you understand your rights and options under the new laws.
  • The employment verification system: Most likely, the process for employers to hire non-U.S. workers will become increasingly stringent. With a wealth of experience handling H-2A visas and other instruments for helping employers bring employees to the United States, we will be on top of the upcoming legislative changes to provide counsel, representation and information for employers.

The Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act is another piece of legislation that could pass soon, which would help undocumented youth obtain citizenship with a college education.
